Fun-filled Busan City Cultural Night thrills Annual Meeting delegates
Attendees of 2018 African Development Bank Annual Meetings in Busan, Republic of Korea, gathered at the Busan Cinema Center. Dignitaries including Bank President Akinwumi A. Adesina; Park Jaemin, Acting Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City; and Ko Hyoung-kwon, First Vice-Minister of Strategy and Finance, Republic of Korea, enjoyed performances by Korean and African artists.
Guests enjoyed a wide range of Korean cuisine – rice, meat, seafood, soups, and seasoned and pickled vegetables.
They also got to try on ancient Korean dynastic costumes for photos as they made red carpet grand entrances to the Cinema Center venue.
Addressing the gathering, Adesina thanked his hosts, “I thank the Koreans for their hospitality and rich culture. I wish the participants to enjoy this thrilling evening,” explaining that the Korea-Africa relationship builds on cultural exchanges and that the 2018 Annual Meetings provided an opportunity for participants to learn about the tremendous diversity of cultures and expressions in Korea.
Ko Hyoung-kwon agreed, explaining the dimensions of cultural exchange. “Korea-Africa cultural exchanges provide opportunities to learn about people’s culture through food, dress, art, dance and music,” he said.
Guests were treated to a special performance by Grammy award-winning bassist Richard Bona from Cameroon, who displayed his unique fusion of West African music, pop, jazz, Cuban, Brazilian and Caribbean music.
The appreciative audience answered Bona’s invitation by joining him in song.
