Climate

Egypt’s average daily temperatures in May are usually hot, with balmy evenings, so visitors should pack light and cool clothing. The average daily maximum temperature is 35° C and the average daily minimum is 24° C.

Time Zone

Egypt observes Eastern European Time (EET) all year. There are no Daylight-Saving Time clock changes. Cairo is 2 hours ahead of GMT and 7 hours ahead of New York.

Electricity Voltage and Plugs

In Egypt, the supply voltage is 220 V. If the appliance is single voltage-rated, it will need to operate at the same voltage as the supply voltage of the country i.e., 220 V. As for the plugs, they are the same as those in Europe.

Cash Declarations

No limits on the amounts of foreign currency carried. Cash exceeding USD 10,000 or its equivalent must be declared.

Foreign Exchange Regulations

Foreign exchange regulations fall under law No. 88/2003. According to this law, individuals and businesses can hold foreign currency in Egypt and can have local bank accounts denominated in foreign currency.

Tipping

An acceptable tip would be an average of 10-15% if pleased with the service provided.

Smoking

Smoking is prohibited in the following public places: health and educational facilities, governmental venues, sporting and social clubs, youth centers, and public transport.

Mobile Sim Cards

Egypt currently has four mobile operators offering cellular communication services: Orange, Vodafone, Etisalat, and We. These companies also provide 4G and 3G mobile internet. Each operator has a booth at the airport and can be easily found upon arrival.
