Pascaline Sango is a very busy woman. This 39-year-old mother arrived in the Nyankanda refugee camp in the east of Burundi in January 2020, after fleeing South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She is not only the head of Ward 32 in the camp and a pastor, but also the vice-president of the parents' committee. She is also the president of an agricultural cooperative with 75 members from among the refugees and their host communities.

The 57th Annual Meetings of the Board of Governors of the African Development Bank and the 48th Meetings of the Board of Governors of the African Development Fund, the concessional arm of the Bank Group, will take place in Accra, Ghana from 23 to 27 May 2022. This year’s meetings, which will be in a hybrid format, mark a return to in-person sessions following virtual meetings over the past two years. The physical sessions, including statutory meetings of Governors of the Bank and knowledge events, will take place at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The African Development Bank Group’s Annual Meetings in May will focus on the impact of climate change on Africa and the need for a just energy transition  on the continent, the Bank Group’s Secretary General said on Wednesday. Professor Vincent Nmehielle spoke during a virtual press conference convened to brief journalists about the agenda of the five-day meetings, to be held from 23 to 27 May in Accra, Ghana.

The African Development Bank Group has launched its Climate Change and Green Growth Framework at the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland. The framework is the first of its kind by any multilateral development bank.

The poorest countries will bear the worst effects of climate change and the highest costs in terms of economic production and higher mortality, according to Nobel laureate Esther Duflo. The 2019 Economics Nobel Laureate and professor of economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), delivered the keynote at the African Development Bank’s 2021 Kofi Annan Eminent Speaker Lecture Series.

The Board of Directors of the African Development Fund on Wednesday approved a $125.3 million loan to finance the first phase of the Dodoma Resilient and Sustainable Water Development and Sanitation Program in Tanzania. Specifically, the loan from the African Development Fund, the concessional window of the African Development Bank Group, will cover the construction of a dam and water treatment plant to address supply challenges in Dodoma City and the towns of Bahi, Chemba and Chamwino.
