International Bond Markets

04/02/2021

Moderator:  Mr. Javier Blas, Africa Editor, Financial Times

Panelists:

  • Mr. Rajiv Shah, Head of Global Debt – Capital Markets, BNP Paribas
  • Amb. Claver Gatete, Minister of Finance, Rwanda
  • Mr. Jurie Swart, Head of Infrastructure and Development Impact Funds, Old Mutual

Rapporteur:  Mr. Pierre Van Peteghem, Group Treasurer, AfDB

Description:

The year 2013 saw the highest issuance from Africa in the international debt markets and included a number of debut sovereign transactions coming to the market. For example, Rwanda’s inaugural international bond recently won Euromoney’s “Africa Deal of the Year” and Rwanda was able to fund important projects at historically low yields. Investors now have a far more detailed grasp of individual African economies and are looking for more credits to invest in. The panel would discuss the dynamics of this market and analyze the different ways in which issuers can tap into this demand. This panel is co-sponsored by the AfDB and BNP Paribas.
