Heads of Africa’s leading regional and continental bodies on Thursday met to discuss how to fast-track the continent’s development plan, known as Agenda 2063. Covid-19 and rising fuel, food and fertilizer prices in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine war, have raised the stakes, and the urgency to speed up recovery.
The Management Board and Governing Council of the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF) have expressed satisfaction with the strong 2021 performance of the ALSF. They also commended the team’s timely and sustained response to the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic across the Facility’s areas of intervention. The Board and Council also passed resolutions regarding ALSF operations.

The African continent is now being hit hard by the socio-economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Russian-Ukrainian conflict poses further challenges to African economies, even threatening the continent's food security. These constraints are in addition to the many inequalities that characterize Africa in terms of access to education and health services and the difficulties associated with the lack of access to modern, affordable and reliable energy services and heavy dependence on fossil fuels.

A side event to the Bank’s Annual Meetings in Accra, Ghana, the session featured a discussion on building resilient digital economies in Africa. It addressed the need for resilient broadband networks as well as innovation and entrepreneurship to develop a thriving digital eco-system.
