Oversight and accountability mechanisms are important for good governance and sustainable growth. In this respect, the African Development Bank has established different organs to oversee and hold itself and its staff accountable. Through these oversight mechanisms, the Bank ensures that its policies, actions and procedures entrench/foster practices of good corporate governance inside and outside the institution – particularly among the Bank’s regional member countries (RMCs). These mechanisms help to resolve issues that arise amongst all stakeholders. They will play a significant role in light of the Bank’s commitments to contribute to Africa’s progress during the next 50 years, thereby supporting the economies of RMCs to realize their full potential in the global economy. Panelists will focus on the roles of the Bank’s oversight and accountability mechanisms and discuss the Bank’s commitment to accountability and transparency in its operations. The panel will also discuss the Bank’s efforts to support RMCs to promote and institutionalize the culture of compliance through their own policies with the view to ensuring sustainability and better outcomes for development programs.
